Congrats to Dobby! Totally awesome news and justice has been served. I think Ward could be bought out. Another possibility is he may get a couple starts to try and prove he is not done and then move him meanwhile absorbing a portion of his remaining salary.
I am so happy for Anton

Anton is a great signing! I do agree it creates a strange situation with Cam. The only way he could be moved is if the Canes keep some of his salary. (which I doubt)

I think the Canes should definitely keep Ron Hainsey. He was a great pick up for reasonable $. If they can re-sign him for similar $ or a slight increase, then we should do it. No question.

--Are you as thrilled and relieved as I am with the Khudobin signing?

I am thrilled. At that cost, if Dobby plays exactly like he has this year, he's a steal. If he regresses, you arent on the hook for anything obscene unlike...

--With Khudobin under contract, do you think this means anything for Cam Ward? Will Rutherford move aggressively and eat contract? Will he shop him casually hoping someone will take his contract? Or is he ready to sit and wait hoping for better times for Ward after a summer off?

This has got to mean the end for Ward here in Carolina, else it is perilously close to becoming his own version of the Bobby-Lu situation in Vancouver. He wants to be a starter, most of the fan base ( well the educated portion that can get past 2006 anyway ) doesn't want him here anymore, and staying too much longer could get really ugly. I have to believe he's getting moved for whatever can come back as well as some money eaten or being bought out this summer.

Finally something to be happy about. Congrats to Anton, well deserved. Best thing JR did so far this year.

Funny feeling something big is going to happen tomorrow with one of the "core" players. David Legwand would be my choice to pursue.

Best news in a while!! Happy to have Khudobin as a Cane for a couple of years.

If they can re-sign Hainsey now, that's great, I like him in the top 4. Otherwise let him go as a rental and he can always re-sign with the Canes over the summer. Canes need pics/prospects.

Would love to see them move Ward....but I have my doubts. JR was able to move that awful Kaberle contract, but this one is much more challenging I think.

Unless they feel that Markstrom is ready for prime time, it would seem that Vancouver is in need of a goaltender now. I don't think Eddie Lack is the answer.

The best possibility might be Halak. To be honest, I am surprised that they did not get Tim Thomas back in the Luongo deal, but it is possible that Thomas would not agree to go there (seems unlikely) or that they prefer different (Halak, Brodeur, etc.).

All that said, it does seem to at least open up a possible destination for Ward though I continue to think it likely that anyone will touch even most of Ward's contract until he looks at least decent in a few starts.
